Men’s Golf Swings Back Into Action

February 20, 1965: After a yearlong hiatus, the Mars Hill College Varsity Men’s Golf team returned to action in the spring of 1965. Coached by Ron Bromley, the 1965 Men’s Golf team consisted of approximately five players whom were chosen by means of an elimination tournament held in early April of that year.  1965 saw the Mars Hill College Men’s golf team compete against Milligan College, King College, Asheville-Biltmore College, and East Tennessee State College, finishing the competitive season with an even 4 wins and 4 loses.

The sport of golf was no stranger to the campus of Mars Hill as the institution fielded several successful teams in the 1940s and 1950s. Prior to the 1965 season, Mars Hill College last competed in men’s golf in 1963 when they defeated Asheville-Biltmore College by a score of 11-7. The 1965 Mars Hill College Men’s golf team played their home matches at the Beaver Lake Golf Course in Asheville, North Carolina. Today, the Mars Hill University Men’s Golf team is led by David Pennell and consists of 10 students from around the world.
